Bronchodilators Xanthine Derivatives
Indication:
Long-term control of asthma, COPD.
Mode of Action:
↑ cAMP, causing bronchodilation.
Cautions:
Coronary artery disease (CAD).
Indication:
GI upset, headache, arrhythmias, seizures.
NC/PT:
Therapeutic serum theophylline level is 10 - 20 mcg/mL. Report levels > 20 mcg/mL to provider. Periodic blood draws are required during treatment to check serum levels. Avoid foods/drinks with caffeine!
