Inhibits monoamine oxidase, which ↑ neurotransmitter levels.

Indication:
Agitation/anxiety, orthostatic hypotension, suicidal thoughts/behavior, hypertensive crisis.
NC/PT:
Do not eat foods rich in tyramine (e.g, aged cheese, avocados, bananas, red wine, salami/pepperoni, chocolate). Avoid caffeine. Interacts with MANY other medications (including OTC cold medications), which can result in severe hypertension. A "washout" period of at least two weeks is required before starting new medications.
