Indication:
Hypertension, edema (related to heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease).
Mode of Action:
Blocks reabsorption of Na, Cl, and water at the distal convoluted tubule.

Dehydration, hypokalemia, hyponatremia.
NC/PT:
Administer several hours before bed if possible to prevent disruption of sleep, weigh patients daily, monitor I&Os/electrolytes. Consume foods high in potassium (e.g., bananas, dark leafy greens, potatoes, cantaloupe, tomatoes).
